JCS Athletic Department is proud to announce that Grady Cothran ('24) has been selected to be a part of the FHSAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the 2022-23 school year. This is the first time JCS has had representation on the committee, and we are looking forward to Grady's involvement.
The SAAC is a 16-member statewide committee made up of member school Student-Athletes that are in their Junior or Senior year of High School. The purpose of the committee is to provide a voice for student-athletes within the FHSAA governance structure, in the following areas:
- Current issues facing student-athletes
- Input regarding rules and regulations
- Input on FHSAA special initiatives (e.g. sportsmanship campaign)
- Promotion of a positive image of the student-athlete
Grady began preparing this summer by attending a Student Leadership Seminar in Ft. Myers in July and drafting his essay answers for his nomination application. Throughout the application, Grady references his time on the JCS Swim team, working at JCS Vacation Bible School as a group leader and being a Camp Counselor during STEM Camp this summer. Each position has aided in developing his leadership skills on communication, conflict resolution and the balance between work and fun. As Grady steps into his role on the SAAC, he hopes to make an impact in all sports on the student level, but specifically, with Swim. He hopes to create a training program and educate coaches and student-athletes on rules and regulations.
Congratulations, Grady!
